HOW IT WORKS
Get Covered in 3 Steps
Register with FMCSA: Apply for your USDOT number and MC authority at FMCSA.dot.gov/registration. Pay the $300 application fee. New entrants get a 18-month monitoring period.
Complete UCR Registration: Unified Carrier Registration applies to all interstate motor carriers. Fee is based on fleet size — starts at $59/year for 1–2 power units. Register at UCR.gov.
File BOC-3: You need a process agent in every state you operate in. Use a BOC-3 blanket filing service ($20–$30 one-time) — this is required before FMCSA will activate your authority.
Bind Insurance & File BMC-91: Get your commercial truck insurance bound with a carrier that files BMC-91 electronically with FMCSA. Your insurer files directly — you get confirmation in your FMCSA portal.
Wait for Active Status: After all filings are confirmed, FMCSA activates your authority. This typically takes 21 days from the initial application date. You can start operating once status shows "Active."
